Our brief was to modernise a home which has been in the one family for almost 100 years. We were charged with upgrading and remodelling this house to make it fit for modern living and good for the next 100 years! The fact that the owner had a sentimental connection to the original house made this an extra special renovation project.
The house was in its original condition, except for an extension at the rear that was built in the 1970’s and which wasn’t much better then the original house. Therefore the house was a candidate for each retrofit item of work. The finished house is insulated to current standards, it is properly ventilated and is completely draught free. The heating system is new and the house is rewired. It is a modern construction in an old shell.
The rear extension was completely reworked and reoriented. The ground floor was fully opened up for open plan living and a modern utility room and w.c. were added. We constructed a porch to the front of the house. Upstairs, the smallest bedroom was converted to a family shower room and the two remaining bedrooms were kept largely unchanged – a master bedroom to the front and a guest bedroom to the rear. The house was fully finished when handed over with timber floors and carpets. There is a newly designed kitchen layout and utility room with appliances. There are new wardrobes and an attic floored for storage with an attic ladder for easy access.
On this project we carried out all the external works such as paving the front and rear yards. We installed external lighting and a heater to the rear. We also installed a retractable and automated awning. To finish we selected and supplied a certain quantity of furniture, plus blinds and drapes.
