PROJECT DETAILS

Brief

This old cottage has been in the family for two generations. It was now being taken on by the next generation with their young family and needed to be upgraded to make it warm, modern and comfortable.

Deep Retrofit

The scope of Deep Retrofit works included complete strip out of the house. The external walls were dry-lined, and the ground floor and attic were insulated. The house was re-wired and a whole new heating and plumbing system installed using a combi boiler. The existing windows and doors were replaced by energy efficient AluClad double glazed Carlson windows and doors. The layout changes consisted of opening up the original porch, removing the partitions to open up the space in the kitchen and master bedroom, removing the raised floor in the bathroom, and creating skylight openings.

Finish

The new kitchen by Nolan Kitchens was installed with quartz counter tops. The bathroom was fitted out with Villeroy & Boch fittings from Ideal Bathrooms. New Balterio flooring was laid in the lobby, kitchen and living room, and the carpets were laid in the bedrooms and office. The finish also included built-in wardrobe and storage units in the hall. The house was completely redecorated to finish.

The End Result

This is now a modern house. Cold, draughts and dampness have given way to warm and comfortable living in this charming cottage.
