To transform a dated house into a modern family home. This house had been owned by our clients for many years, but they had not lived in it as their family home in many years as they lived abroad. The time had come to rejuvenate the house and make it their family home again. It needed to be modern in every respect; under the bonnet, layout wise and cosmetically.

Design Process

The house was in its original layout and was a collection of small rooms, typical of a house of its vintage. Our brief was to reconfigure the house for modern open plan living, and to add modern amenities such as a utility room, an en-suite shower room, a walk in wardrobe and a second living space.

With a clear brief, it didn’t take long to settle on final plans. Our client’s preference was to keep within the scope of an exempt development which we managed without any compromise in design. Therefore planning permission was not required and we could commence works without delay.

Retrofit works

This house received the full suite of insulation and air-tightness measures, along with quality Carlson windows, and all new services. In addition, this house has underfloor heating and an air-to-water heat pump so it is a proper ‘next generation’ home.

Fit out and finishes

The house was handed over as shown in the finished photos, ready for its furnishings. We even did the gardens and paving, front and back. Finishes consisted of kitchen by Nolan Kitchens, wardrobes, bathroom, en-suite and w.c., tiled floors, timber floors, carpets and complete decoration inside and outside.

The finished product

The finished product is a brand new house, just like every other RENOVA house. From our client’s point of view they are moving home to their ‘old house’, but it is now a ‘new house’. They have the familiarity of the old house and its location, plus all the benefits of a new building – the best of both worlds.

The job finished on budget and on time – simple when you know what you’re doing.
