PROJECT DETAILS

The brief

Our clients on this job wanted to redevelop the return on the rear of their Edwardian house, and improve comfort levels in the main house. The kitchen and some rooms on the upper levels were not up to modern day standards because they were small and functional, rather than being proper modern day living spaces. They were not in keeping with the generously proportioned rooms in the rest of the house.

Working with the client we designed an extension and reconfiguration of the return at ground floor level to provide a modern kitchen diner plus living room. At the upper levels we reconfigured to provide a new ensuite bedroom.

In addition to these layout changes we carried out a some retrofit works in the main house. The attic was insulated, heating was upgraded and the electrics were made safe too. As part of the works we introduced a specialist contractor to repair and re-point the brickwork to the exterior of the house, and the client arranged the replacement of window sashes too.

The finished house

The house retains all of its period features but it is now a more modern home thanks to the reconfigured layout. i.e. the kitchen/diner, the new living room. and the additional ensuite bedroom. Comfort levels have been improved too by the addition of the retrofit works.

Our clients now have the best of both worlds. The have a classic period home, but with a modernised layout.
